The Pointelier Tournament

Now I really am playing catch-up.
We played the Pointelier tournament from the 4th to the 17th of February, making it all the way to the finals.  It was a well organized event and a great opportunity for the kids to improve their skills.  Below is a videographic summary of each game, enjoy!

Feb 4 vs the The Faucons de SADP (Sainte Anne des Plaines) - tied 3-3
(the first goal happened so quickly - at 36 seconds - that I did not manage to catch it on tape, but kudos to William for scoring with Joe's assistance).
Joshua gets tripped, opponents get a penalty
Romolo's powerplay goal
Opponent's first goal (way too much fancy footwork in our zone)
Opponent's second goal (powerplay)
Joe gets a penalty
Opponent's third goal (powerplay)
Opponents get a penalty
Sam's powerplay goal to tie it up
Penalty for opponents
It's not a goal
Penalty for opponents
Still trying for one last goal

Feb 9 vs the Eperviers de PAT - tied 1-1
Their goalie was massive!
Opponent's goal
Opponent's penalty (no. 2)
Joe's powerplay goal with seconds left in first period

Feb 13 vs the Lasalle Panthers - won 4-1
This was a game that we had to win by a margin of 3 in order to advance to the quarter-finals.  We did so with only a 0.015% advantage over the next team (our first opponents), so it really was a game against all odds (especially against Lasalle, a quick team).
Antonio's goal
Some nice passing, Joe's first goal
Sam gets crushed (penalty to opponents)
Joe's second goal
Joe's third goal
Coaches get warned about hotdogging, Antonio gets penalty
Opponent's goal
Overexcited audience, Romolo gets penalty

Quarter finals Feb 14 vs the Eperviers de SADP (the sister team of our first opponents) - won 2-0
Nick's goal
Skylar's penalty (the first of many, we lost our fair play point in this game)
Penalty to opponents
Joe's powerplay goal
Suge's penalty
Sam's penalty
Antonio's penalty (2 now!)
Killing penalties, and Antonio gets another one!
Joe gets a penalty
We win the quarter finals!

Semi finals, early Feb 17 vs the Pumas de Repentigny - won 3-2 in overtime!
The kids were anxious to get this game underway, as this team had beaten our sister team, the Panthers, in the quarter finals by 4-3.
Penalty for opponents
Opponent's first goal
Joe's goal
Passing at the blue line never works
Romolo's goal
Very nice save Kieran
William gets tripped in front of opponent's net (penalty other team), end of third period into overtime
With only 6.8 seconds left in overtime, William scores the winning goal
Victory!! Off to the finals!

Finals, Feb 17 in the afternoon, vs the Beauport Harfangs, lost 8-1

And so our players put up a really valiant fight against this team from the outskirts of Quebec City… we knew going in that it was going to be a tough game, as they had beaten their opponents by large margins already.  Right from the start, though, the refs were tougher than they had been earlier, with Skylar starting out with a tripping penalty.  The Harfangs get their first three goals on powerplays, so that by the end of the second period it is 3-0.  Early into the third period they score a fourth goal and we come back with one of our own, but the team’s spirits are down and they let three more goals get through.  The mercy rule comes into play and the game stops after a goal difference of seven (tournament rules) halfway through the third period.  This is the Harfangs second victory with the mercy rule, and four of their players are the top ten in the tournament (they take the top two spots).  So the Cougars can end this tournament and bring home the “finalistes” banner with their heads held high.
